Zehner’s Talented Musicians Rock Club Nokia
Every year in September, professionals from the biggest advertising, marketing and digital agencies in Los Angeles get a chance to abandon their emails and conference rooms for guitars, drums and microphones at ThinkLA’s AdJam Battle of the Bands. This year, a skilled and diverse band of Zehner employees took the stage at Club Nokia in Downtown LA for the first time in the history of the event and put on an impressive show for the large industry crowd in attendance. The band consisted of members from multiple departments within the company who all have a history being touring and recording musicians. Some who are still doing it today between pitch decks and PM meetings.
The theme for AdJam 2015 was “Songs from Movies.” After lengthy arm wrestling sessions and games of rock-paper-scissors, the Zehner band landed on music from Wes Anderson films. In their twelve minute long set, the aptly named Margot and the Baumers played “Rock the Casbah” by The Clash, “Life on Mars” by David Bowie and “Hey Jude” by The Beatles. For a good laugh, the instrumentalists dressed in red track suits and fro wigs to imitate the neurotic-for-safety Chas Tenenbaum while singer Mel Torosyan dawned the outfit of the fur-wearing and fake-fingered character Margot Tenenbaum.
Being the new kids on the block, Margot and the Baumers were assigned the opening time slot for the night. Despite the challenge, the band set the bar incredibly high for the rest of the competitors that night. Shortly after the final group had finished their set, the results were announced. The talent, hard work and dedication payed off for the band as, to many people’s surprise, Zehner took 3rd place out of 9.
Now that the band has one AdJam competition under their belt, they are looking forward to returning next year and proving that Zehner attracts and employs some undeniably talented people.
