A Seamless Shopping Experience for Heal the Bay

When Heal the Bay, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to making California’s coastal waters safe, approached Zehner about simplifying their shopping experience, we were thrilled to align commerce and cause. 

Zehner has a long-standing relationship with Heal the Bay, having first worked with them on the 2017 LA Sucks campaign, one of the first initiatives to popularize plastic straws’ environmental effects. The collaboration demonstrated the far-reaching impact ZGood, Zehner’s corporate responsibility initiative, could have on our local community. 

To make Heal the Bay’s new shopping experience a reality, we re-platformed Heal the Bay’s site from Novo to Shopify. In leveraging the Shopify platform, we installed a theme and built the architecture to configure a content-driven layout. We also used 3rd party Shopify integrations that aligned with Heal the Bay’s product and donation goals.

Improving Heal the Bay’s shopping experience proved to be the perfect intersection of our passion for social good and eCommerce. Our team held an initial day-long kickoff and workshop focused on building the Heal the Bay site’s foundational architecture and integrations. From there, we collaborated with Heal the Bay’s internal team and layered on the story, content, and additional features that you now see on the site. 

The new shopping experience delivers a higher return on investment, lower ownership cost, ease of use, and scalability. It also enabled the integration of the site with Heal the Bay’s in-store retail space at the Santa Monica Pier and its Shopify POS. 

The result of ZGood’s collaboration with Heal the Bay is a shopping experience that enables Heal the Bay to focus on marketing to drive sales. Heal the Bay’s role in our local community is essential and necessary. Keeping our Los Angeles waterways safe is important to everyone at Zehner. We could not be more excited to share Heal the Bay’s site, which embodies our ability to think globally and act locally.
